Formerly etc communications

Publik Agency, formerly known as etc communications ltd. was formed many moons ago by Emma Thompson. Emma aimed to make her expertise and talent in PR and marketing accessible, to support the local need in the region she loves.

‘etc’, standing for Emma Thompson Communications, was a clever play on et cetera, used at the end of a list to indicate that further, similar items are included. Just like with business, there is often so much more to be said. Emma worked passionately with local business leaders to bring their story to the forefront.

Emma has always worked alongside people that share the same passion for empowering others to be their best. In 2018, as a team of nine plus, the business was more than just its fearless leader. A group of passionate individuals all working together to help create an extraordinary regional business world, full of prosperity, meaning, and connection - Publik Agency was born.

Why Publik Agency?

Our in-agency expertise across all communications services makes us unique in the top of the South Island.

We are all about reaching and connecting with our clients’ ‘public’, whoever they might be.

Replacing the ‘c’ of public with a ‘k’ provides visual strength to an otherwise soft shaped word. It also changes it from something common to something unique - a conversation starter.

We are a dedicated, vibrant team, and our strong red brand colour reflects this. Pairing that with vintage black and white imagery captures our love of vintage things, our sense of fun and depth of experience (though most of us haven’t been around quite that long).

Why Agency?

Agency has more than one meaning.

  1. A business or organisation providing a particular service on behalf of another business, person, or group. For example: a PR, Marketing and Design Agency.

  2. Action or intervention producing a particular effect. In both senses, we are about ‘Agency’.

  3. The agency of an individual - or a business - to make empowered, informed decisions.

Rather than try to describe everything we do, and are, with a convoluted tagline (Marketing, PR and Design), we decided to run with the strength of ‘Agency.’ It’s simple, descriptive and minimalist - yet full of meaning.
