Nelson Tasman’s full-service PR, Marketing and Design Agency

In a nutshell...

Publik Agency is Nelson Tasman’s full service public relations (PR), marketing and design agency, formerly known as etc communications ltd. Our in-agency expertise across all communications services makes us unique in the top of the South Island.

Professional passion

We love what we do! Not a day goes by when we are not thinking about opportunities for clients and opportunities for our region to shine. We are passionate Nelson Tasman ambassadors - out of all the international cities we have lived in, or were born in, we have chosen Nelson Tasman as our home, supporting the extraordinary community leaders we have right here.

Meet your Publik agency

We bring to our work a taste of where we are all from. We have born and bred Nelsonians, Wellingtonians who love sport, a Wellingtonian who knows nothing about sport (but she is kinda OK), an Otago-born person identifying as a Cantabrian, and strangely, a Canterbury-born person identifying as an Otagoite.

Different perspectives and views on life, but shared values make for a pretty fun workplace.

Coming from a variety of places, we also have professional diversity. Some of us have worked in-house or for international agencies before landing here at Publik. Several of us also give back to our community, providing strategic expertise in governance or business mentoring roles in Nelson Tasman.

emma thompson publik

Emma Thompson, Managing Director

Emma is the face behind the brand development, marketing strategy and PR for many of Nelson Tasman’s sector leaders. With 20 years’ experience under her belt, this former journalist, ministerial press secretary and PR pro is Publik’s founder and fearless leader. Find out more about Emma’s experience, including her role as an independent board director and an external board advisor, here.

Leanne Publik

Leanne Macdonald, Account Director - Communications / PR

Leanne sure knows her communications, having developed her expertise from the ground up while serving in the public sector. She joins Publik directly from the Nelson City Council's communications team, where she provided media relations and stakeholder engagement. Before moving to Nelson she had senior advisory and management roles in local and central government and was even the head honcho of communications for the Department for Corrections. Was Nelson a great move for her family? Like many of us new to Nelson, or returning after a stint away, it is in Leanne's eyes the best place in New Zealand to live and work.

Hannah hill-Parker

Hannah Hill-Parker, Account Manager - Marketing

Hannah is the newest member to join the marketing team at Publik, after returning home to Nelson with several years of marketing, PR and operational management experiences under her belt. Her flair for organisation, strategic planning (and love for the good old Excel spreadsheet), has seen her successfully drive company brand objectives across a wide range of sectors. At home Hannah is chief home brew connoisseur, expert dog walker and master of the garden.

anna bill publik

Anna Bill, Account Manager - Marketing

After killing it as a marketing manager in the United Kingdom and marketing co-ordinator at NMIT, Anna joined Publik in 2014 to lead the agency’s marketing team. With a Bachelor of Commerce Degree (Marketing and Management), and nearly ten years’ marketing experience, she has driven and implemented successful marketing strategy across a range of industries. Anna is somewhat obsessed with digital technologies and keeps the Publik team updated (daily!) on the latest global marketing trends. A born-and-bred Nelsonian, Anna loves netball and anything that involves being on the water – Tata Beach is her happy place.

andy clover publik

Andy Clover, Design and Brand Consultant

Andy has a love for all things design that began when he redesigned his primary school’s logo at the age of five. Now somewhere in the midst of an art and design career spanning more years than he cares to remember, Andy gets his kicks working with companies to help them achieve their brand and business goals. With his love of ideas and flair for conceptualisation, Andy takes strategy, creative and content and brings it all to life. On the side, he like to read, write, sleep, play football, slow cook BBQ and develop his own cocktail recipes.

rebecca fyfe publik

Rebecca Fyfe, Account Support - PR and Marketing

As Publik’s all round super human, Rebecca helps with a whole range of marketing and public relations activities for clients, as well as ever important non-client work like organising the Friday work drinks. She has experience in a variety of event management, executive assistant and senior advisory PR roles, both in the public and private sector. Before joining Publik, Rebecca was co-director of a small local company and voluntary teacher aide at her children's school. Outside of work, Rebecca is trying to justify owning two kayaks and has visions of walking Mt Arthur. Of the two, she is more hopeful about her kayaking!

chris chisnall publik

Chris Chisnall, Design and Brand Consultant

A true-blooded Nelsonian, Chris has been working in the design and advertising industry for over 25 years, working in some of New Zealand’s most respected creative agencies like DNA Design, Clemenger BBDO and Saatchi & Saatchi. A pro in graphic design, typography and Photoshop retouching, Chris has developed brand and creative execution for a range of companies and organisations across New Zealand, winning international awards for his design work.

Sarah Lin Wilson, Publik Agency

Sarah Lin Wilson, Consultant

Sarah Lin Wilson has a Bachelor of Communications and thirteen years in the field. She's a published author, working journalist, and first took up a desk next to Emma way back in 2012. Along with a sharp editorial eye, she brings two sides of an unlikely coin - journalism and PR - together. With a foot in both camps, she offers unique insight. Apart from six years studying and working in the public service in Wellington, she's lived her whole life in Nelson Tasman - the best part of the country, hands down.

External collaborators

In addition to our in-house team, we work with a few of the best consultants from the Nelson Tasman region. This allows us to tailor our skills to meet your needs and achieve your goals in the most effective way possible.
